JJ Wellesley Group has launched a “rapid assessment” program to help western companies to evaluate three strategic issues: 1) should the company sell their products/services to China ; 2) should the company source products from China; 3) steps for setting up/registering a business in China. This proram was designed to offer westen companies with a fast and cost effective way to determine the answers to these two very important questions Top Misconceptions about Doing Business in/with China JJ Wellesley Group has throughout the years helped numerous western small and midsized enterprises (SME’s) to do business in/with China. We discovered that a significant number of western SME managers/owners had some preconceived notions regarding how to do business in/with China. We often hear statements such as “You have to have a local partner in order to be successful in China” “The biggest problem is the language barrier” or “Chinese business people value long term relationships a lot more than short term profits.” Some of these notions are downright wrong; and some of them are only applicable in very limited settings. We observed, on many occasions, that some of these misconceptions lead western SME’s to make bad business decisions. Therefore, we think it is important for us to reveal some of the most commonly held misconceptions and explain why they can have negative impacts on your China initiative. Succesfully Set Up Factories in China with a Systematic Approach For any Western companies seeking to build manufacturing facilities in China , the best way to reduce the chance of making costly errors and “detours” is to first develop a systematic, pragmatic, and detailed roadmap.
